X-ray absorption spectroscopy evidence of sulfur-bound cadmium in the Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum nigrum and the non-accumulator Solanum melongena

It has been proposed that non-protein thiols and organic acids play a major role in cadmium phytoavailability distribution plants. In the Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum nigrum non-accumulator melongena, of these ligands accumulation detoxification mechanisms Cd are debated. this study, we used X-ray absorption spectroscopy to investigate speciation plants (roots, stem, leaves) soils for their culture unravel responses exposure. The results show 100 mg kg?1 Cd-doped clayey loam soil is sorbed onto iron oxyhydroxides. both S. roots fresh leaves mainly bound thiol ligands, with small contribution inorganic S leaves. We interpret binding sulfur as mechanisms, possibly involving sequestration complexed glutathione or phytochelatins plant vacuoles. stems, an increase –O (>50% nigrum). suggest partly by transportation sap.
